Google says its Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, PDFs and code right inside the chat window. The feature is live for all Workspace, Workspace Individual and personal Google accounts.

In short

  • Gemini now creates and edits files inside the chat.
  • Works for Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, Markdown, TXT and code (web only).
  • No admin setup needed—available to all Workspace and personal accounts.

What it means for you

  • Small teams can draft client proposals, schedules or marketing decks without opening separate apps.
  • Editing files in‑chat speeds up revisions, letting you ask Gemini to tweak tone or structure instantly.
  • No admin settings are required, so the tool is ready to use as soon as users have Gemini enabled.

The details

What happened

Google released a rapid‑release update to the Gemini app that adds in‑chat file creation, preview and editing. Users can type a prompt to generate a Google Doc, Sheet, Slides deck, PDF, Markdown, TXT or code file, view it in the chat window, and either edit directly in a full‑screen view or ask Gemini to refine the content. PDF preview and editing works on both web and mobile; all other formats are currently web‑only. The feature is available to all users in every language where Gemini is offered.

What it means for your business

You can now produce client quotes, appointment trackers, marketing flyers, or simple contracts without switching between Gmail, Docs, Sheets or Slides. The chat‑driven workflow reduces the back‑and‑forth of copy‑and‑paste and lets you iterate faster, especially for small teams that juggle many admin tasks. Because there is no admin control, you don’t need to wait for IT approval to start using it.

What to do

  • Open the Gemini app and type a prompt such as “Create a spreadsheet to track dental appointments for the next 3 months.”
  • Review the generated preview in the chat. If it looks good, click the full‑screen edit button to make manual changes or highlight text and ask Gemini to re‑write it.
  • When finished, click the option to open the file in Google Sheets, Docs, Slides or download it as PPTX or PDF.
  • For PDFs, you can edit directly on both web and mobile devices.
  • Visit the Gemini Apps Help Center for step‑by‑step instructions and tips on prompting.
